Two Year Curriculum


What do you do with a TWO YEAR OLD?

OUR CURRICULUM INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING KEY UNITS:

SOCIAL SKILLS including:
GOING TO SCHOOL, FAMILY, VALENTINES AND FEELING


Child gains:

  • Confidence by separation from parent.
  • Trust and language skills by sharing about themselves and families.
  • Understanding of celebration of love on a preschool level.
  • Knowledge that God loves us.
  • Help getting along with peers and teacher.
  • Understanding about sad and happy and how it makes us feel.


LANGUAGE SKILLS i
ncluded:
DEVELOPED IN ALL THE UNITS THROUGH THE YEAR

Child gains:
  • Receptive skills (listening)
  • In group time, children practice staying on topic.
  • At the art table children follow directions.
  • With classroom rules children learn to listen and respond.
  • Expressive skills 
  • In circle time, each child is encouraged to orally take part
  • During social time, children learn to talk and create oral stories or scenarios to “play”.

EXPLORING MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS Including: 
SHAPES, NUMBERS
 
Child will learn through:
  • Free play using:
  • Shape and number manipulatives that reinforce vocabulary and number recognition;
  • sets of similar objects in the sensory table to help quantification skills grow.
  • Circle time using:
  • Finger plays, songs and instruments to reinforce naming, counting and recognition skills.
 
EXPLORATION OF SCIENCE Including:
HARVEST TIME, BEACH, FALL, WINTER, SPRING AND COLORS

Child gains:
  • Vocabulary, science knowledge and observation skills as they talk about the weather using a  felt board at circle time.
  • The concept of how to dress for the seasons.
  • Understanding of God’s wonderful spring plants.
  • The understanding of the seasons with a walk out doors to feel and look at the changes of the seasons.
  • The feel of and vocabulary about pumpkins
  • Science concepts and vocabulary growth as children explore the beach and what lives in the ocean.
  • Color recognition- red, blue, yellow and green are reinforced in vocabulary and recognition through manipulatives, art activities and finger plays.
 
CHILD HEALTH AND SAFETY Including:
BODY, FIREMAN AND POLICE MAN
 
Child gains:
  • Vocabulary of the child’s body by using a felt board person, whose name is Be Ba Bo.
  • Self -esteem when a Sharonville Policeman visits the school to talk with the children about   Halloween safety (not Wed. program).                                  
  • Knowledge of safety when a Sharonville Fireman talks about keeping them safe and how he can be trusted in an emergency ( not included for Wed. program). 
  • Knowledge of safety in our building (stay with another mom or teacher)

CHRISTIAN HOLIDAYS
 
CHRISTMAS
Children learn more about Jesus’ birthday and the joy of Christmas.
 
EASTER
The Easter meaning of new life becomes clearer to children as they hunt for eggs and work on Easter art.
 
SPECIAL EVENTS
The 2’s can enjoy on site visitors to SUMC. On site special events include a visit by the school house symphony, policeman and fireman, several story tellers (not included in the Wed. program)
A special family member or parent who talks about his/ her job or hobby
