WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW:
ABOUT NOVEMBER TUITION: Please bring tuition in on Thursday and Friday, October 28/29
CONFERENCES OCCUR DURING THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 1-5 for the whole preschool. Kindergarten conferences will be Tues., Nov 2 and Wed.,Nov.3. PROGRESS REPORTS WILL BE SENT TO YOU IN JANUARY. Second conference week will be in mid March.   Please plan to use this conference time as an informal time of sharing about your child.  Even working parents should plan to attend. A face to face conference accomplishes more than any other kind. Conference lists are up now. Please sign up for one of the two days of conferencing listed for your child's class. YOUR CHILD ATTENDS FOR A FULL SESSION ONLY ON THE CONFERENCE DATE YOU PLAN TO ATTEND. Before you sign up for a time and date, please check with your carpool and Session Stretcher schedule to be sure that everything works for you and your child.

REGISTRATION FOR next year BEGINSWITH ITS FIRST STEP:
For parents of preschoolers who will re-enroll:   At November conferences, you will receive an option sheet. Please indicate from the choices listed on the option sheet, your choice of the morning or the afternoon and which days of the week
you wish for your child to attend.  Parents of 4’s and older, please ask for the option sheet to enroll a younger sibling. Get this from our office.   If you have questions, call (563-8278) the office or stop in for answers. These preference forms, requiring no
financial commitment at this time, are due back in our office by 3 PM on Monday, Nov. 29.  If your child is ill, you may have someone else bring this or call us with your preference. Parents of children considering the school age 5's for next year, although your registration fee is not due until January 25th please turn in your preference sheet to let us know you are at least pondering this choice.
Kindergarten  preregistration is due on November 29th also. The first of five tuition installments is due in late January.
Outdoor play: As the days grow colder, please dress children appropriately to go outdoors in 32 degree or warmer                 weather. Sturdy shoes and a jacket are “must haves”.  We need to play outdoors and fresh air is good for all of us.

TASTING FEASTS: To those new to our school, these mini-Thanksgivings occur on Monday and Tuesday, Nov.22 AND 23. Many classes share a meal (except for turkey/fresh milk products) and role-play the parts and costumes of Indians, Pilgrims.  Others share a more contemporary Thanksgiving with a family member as guest. All learn a lot, taste new foods and have a great deal of fun. Room-mothers will be calling or lists will be posted to solicit food contributions for these parties. We ask those sending a beverage to PLEASE SEND IT IN A NON-GLASS CONTAINER! Please be certain it has been heat processed. Unprocessed juice/cider is not safe.

SUMC has a website! See us at sumcns.org
You can log on and see our monthly newsletters and those of most of the children’s classes. A ticker type calendar on the front page of the website should keep you up to date about what is current for the entire school.
Some of our teachers have also elected to have email through the attached web mail. Mrs. Pendleton also has email
from that site as bpendleton@sumcns.org. For more rapid response, use: sumcnsdirector@hotmail.com Information about the entire preschool and about curriculum per age level is also included there.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TIMES: WE APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORTS TO TRY AND BE ON TIME OR CALL TO LET
US KNOW YOU WILL BE LATE either at the start or end of class. Children who are not picked up by 10 minutes after class ends will be cared for in the office @ $10.00/child per half hour or part thereof. This fee begins when children are not picked up by 12 noon or 3:10pm. Please help us build your child’s positive self esteem by being on time.  It truly makes a difference in how they view themselves. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

DROP OFF CIRCLE: The Drop Off is a service. Please help us move it as quickly as possible. If you are in a real hurry, it may be faster to walk your child in. If you do use the DROP OFF SERVICE, PLEASE: get your child(ren) ready to pop out as you are waiting to pull up to one of the four marked places.   If you are planning to use this service, please see your Parent Handbook p. 12-13. Give all drivers this information. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND COOPERATION!
Which Staircase Should I Use???
AS YOU LEAVE: if you pick up your last child from 257,259,254 or 258, PLEASE EXIT BY THE BACK STAIRWAY, use the hallway under our wing and reenter the main hallway. This allows congestion to dissipate quickly. PLEASE help children remember that we are in a church. Enter and exit quietly with walking feet and quiet bags.

PLEASE REMIND CHILDREN TO LEAVE TOYS AT HOME. PLEASE CHECK TOTE BAGS.
AN ADDITIONAL SAFETY REQUEST:   When you are exiting by car at the end of a session, could you please turn away from the building and exit through the lower lots, reversing how you enter at the start of a session. This will keep more cars away from the other parents and children who are still walking to their cars.   Exiting after a Session Stretcher?   Please merge into the Drop Off/Exit line from the upper part of the lot.

PLEASE use cell phones to help us! Turn these OFF while on SUMChurch lot or property. Eliminating this distraction helps us all keep better awareness of the children. PLEASE: keep your phone ON and charged while you are away from us and your child is here. WE CANNOT PROPERLY HELP YOUR CHILD IN AN EMERGENCY IF WE CANNOT REACH YOU.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION!
This year we are continuing our Box Tops Collection starting November 1st.   If you are not aware of the Box Tops for Education program check out the website at www.boxtops4education.com where you can receive additional benefits for signing up as well as the school receiving additional benefits. Please have your child bring in the Box Tops in a baggie to place in the class’s envelope. If they could be cut along the dotted lines this is very helpful and also good cutting practice for your preschooler. Thanks for your donations!

BIRTHDAY—BIRTHDAY—BIRTHDAY—For your child’s birthday consider giving the school library a book.   Bi-lingual books are really needed as we would like to expand our multi-cultural section. Thank you.

SCHOOL POLICY ON ANNOUNCEMENTSfor other organizations: Although we cannot put announcements in school newsletter due to space limitations, we will be happy to post your attractive (9" by 12") nonpolitical poster for up to 30 days. Preprinted fliers will be put on shelf under the SUTQ sign in the lower hallway. ALL POSTED ITEMS and FLIERS MUST BE CLEARED THROUGH THE OFFICE. We have a special bulletin board dedicated to this use.

WHAT IS IHN? (Interfaith Hospitality Network)
SUMChurch is cosponsoring a project to assist temporarily homeless families. About every 21/2 months, the church will house several families from Sunday- Saturday nights, give them dinner, breakfast and a box lunch. Your donations of paper goods, boxed drinks, or pre-moistened towelettes for the lunches can be deposited at the Church Kitchen. (Please mark IHN on the package.) Thank you for sharing! PLEASE NOTE: these families will be housed in lower rooms of the church 7 PM to 7 AM during hours when the nursery school is not in operation. Rest rooms are cleaned both before and after our overnight guests use them.

Operation Christmas Child is underway!
This program is a way of sharing blessings with children all over the world who may not have some of the “extras” that our families may. You simply fill a shoe box for either a girl or boy with small gifts for the Holidays. If you are interested please pick up a flyer in the church office. The boxes will need to be returned by Thursday, November 11 or Friday, November12

HAVE A HAPPY AND HEALTHY THANKSGIVING!!
