Mission statement: The Mission of SUMCNS is to assist preschool children in their intellectual, emotional, social, physical and spiritual development by providing enrichment experiences in a Christian environment.
HISTORY
Organization The Sharonville United Methodist Nursery School was originated by the members of the Sharonville United Methodist Church for the purpose of serving the preschoolers of the Sharonville Community. Currently SUMC Nursery School serves children from all over NE Hamilton County as well as parts of Butler County.. The school now serves children from ages 27 months through kindergarten. We are open Monday through Friday with morning sessions from 9:20 to 11:50 and afternoon sessions from 12:30-3:00. Those who enroll may choose morning or afternoon sessions, depending on availability.
The school is not a cooperative school but we are pleased to accept parental volunteer service in various ways: driving for field trips, donating craft items, sending in party surprises and making special visits with babies, films, etc. (Please see our Parent Participation Policy.)
PURPOSE
The main objectives of our nursery school are :
- To ensure that the child's first schooling experience is a positive one, through activities which enable each child to exercise choice, experience success, and acquire enthusiasm for learning.
- To provide an environment of Christ-centered love and faith modeled by the lives of all nursery school employees and demonstrated in relationships with children and their parents.
- To guide each child in developing an awareness of God and an appreciation of God's love for them as experienced in Christian faith.
- To enable each child to experience prayer in age-appropriate ways.
- To identify children who have intellectual, social or physical developmental delays and consult with qualified persons to assist these children in functioning with greater success in the classroom.
- To provide parents with structured opportunities to enhance their parenting skills.
- To provide a "door" for new members to find and enter SUMC membership.
LEARNING STYLES
The school's program uses directed activities, independent work, small group work, and large group discussion. Various activity centers within each classroom focus on Math. readiness, language development, reading readiness, science exploration, large and small muscle development, music appreciation and art experimentation.
