Announcing: Kindergarten Authors’ Tea-Tuesday, April 20 at 11:30am-Please come hear the kindergarten authors (your daughters) in their debut readings of their All About Me books. See you in our classroom at 11:30 on Tuesday. The girls are very excited! Thanks!!
Language arts includes reviewing letters, sounds and word wall words, as well as the introduction of reading and writing strategies. After reading I’ll Teach My Dog 100 Words, we are “on a mission” to write 100 words in our Popcorn Word Books. So far we have 57! We continue to write in our Writing Notebooks. **Remember to return your child’s “Take Home Books” baggie each Tuesday, so we may add a new “reading tool” to our Reading Tool Boxes. Thanks!! Have you heard about our Eric Carle Corner? This is a place in our room where the children become illustrators just like Eric Carle. There are also books and games by this famous author/illustrator.
Number Math Tubs are going very well! Have your child explain those “funny looking” math papers that come home all stapled together. Each child is responsible for his/her own math folder and is working at his/her own pace. We will continue this work along with the introduction of “telling time” next week.
In science, before spring break, we were experimenting with magnets. Magnet marble painting was a big hit along with the “what sticks to a magnet” activity. Next week comparing insects and spiders will be the topic of study. We will also be observing the life cycle of the butterfly firsthand. This is a 2-3 week process. We’ll keep you posted!
By now you have noticed the “My Center Work” sheets that have come home. On Monday each child is given a center work sheet with 4-5 centers listed. The children have all week to visit these centers and choose an activity from each. Upon completion of a center, the child punches a hole next to the name of that center on his/her sheet. This is just to make sure the children are exposed to all of the centers available to them and help them be more responsible for their own work. It is also great for following directions and decision making, not to mention, it’s also just fun!
More information coming soon about: Our last field trip to the Heritage Village in Sharon Woods, celebrating Old Fashion Day at school and the many end-of-the-year activities. Lots more fun and learning ahead!!!
Thanks, Mrs. Holtgrefe
